Susie braves stormy waters for Connect

27 July 2009

Connect supporter Susie Parr bravely swam across the Camel Estuary in Cornwall to raise funds for Connect.

Susie, triumphant, at the finish

Susie Parr was one of 300 plucky swimmers who braved wind and stormy waters to swim across the Camel Estuary on 19th July. Susie, who has a passion for outdoor swimming in all weathers, completed the distance of over one mile, protected only by her swimsuit and a liberal application of vaseline!

The race began at Padstow and Susie was met by her fans and family at the finish in Rock.  Susie said 'The swim was very scary in the wild weather, wind and waves. I managed the distance in 45 minutes, taking 5 minutes off my previous time and came in a very distinguished 297th out of 300 swimmers'.

Susie raised over £1200 shared between Connect and MacMillan Cancer Support, the charity which organised the race. It's not too late to sponsor her - just click on Susie's justgiving page

We are looking for more brave people to enter exciting events to support Connect and raise awareness of aphasia. If you would like to enter a sponsored event for Connect, find out more in fundraising
