Taking Control
This project is about increasing opportunities for people with aphasia to get involved in self-management activities
Self-management is when you live with a long term condition such as aphasia. Self management is about taking control by building confidence, getting more out of life, action planning to manage your symptoms and your health.
The project aims to:
- Increase opportunities for people with aphasia to take part in self management programmes
- Increase opportunities for people with a communication disability to deliver or co-deliver self management programmes
- Help other service providers to work with and include people with aphasia and communication disability in self management activities
So far we have:
- Looked at the meaning of self management for people who live with a communication disability
- Reviewed some of the group activities at Connect
- Worked with the Expert Patient Programme to look at ways to make their self management programme more accessible to people with aphasia
